Earth Day at the Turtle Museum 2016

The Key West Turtle Museum will host a free Earth Day 2016 celebration from 11am to 4pm.  The public is invited tour the Turtle Museum and meet local conservation groups that work tirelessly on behalf of the wildlife of the Florida Keys.

Mel Fisher Maritime Museum Archaeologist Corey Malcom discusses how the long-running Key West turtling industry helped to shape the island’s identity and economy for over 150 years and how it almost wiped out the Green Sea Turtles. This unique story is examined through historical research, oral history, and the archaeological excavation of the Key West Turtle Kraals.
