The History of the Key West Sea Turtling Industry - Special Presentation

Mel Fisher Maritime Museum Archaeologist Corey Malcom discusses how the long-running Key West turtling industry helped to shape the island’s identity and economy for over 150 years and how it almost wiped out the Green Sea Turtles. This unique story is examined through historical research, oral history, and the archaeological excavation of the Key West Turtle Kraals. We are expecting a big crowd, so this program will be presented in the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum courtyard located at the at 200 Greene Street on February 23, 2016 at 6:30p. The program and free and open to the public.
